I have been trying to mesh a solid rectangular geometry having a size of 17 m by 5 m by 0.5 m in ls pre-post with a total of 298 holes of 32 mm diameter of length 450 mm at a spacing of 0.5 m throughout from the top surface of the slab. Started with a element size of 0.5 and 0.25 but prompted a error of hex meshing error: failed to facetize faces. Then with a element size of 0.03 which is less than the hole size it came with a different error of parameterization failed. Can someone suggest what can be causing this error and how can I mesh the geometry.
Hi @gte,
From my understanding of Hex meshing in LS-Prepost, you should be able to 2D quad mesh that top surface and then use that mesh as the guide to pull the elements through the thickness, creating your hexa mesh. Granted, it won't be perfectly symmetric across the length of the object, but it should work for you. Haven't done this in a while though so if you are having issues I can mess around with the tool and figure out exactly which buttons to click etc.
I'm also going to ping @icebreakersours since he mentioned that he had used this LS-Prepost for hexa meshing in a different post.
I'll also link this tutorial/channel for using the Blockmesher which is much more robust than my method but much more painful to learn (I have no idea how to use this feature).
