Hello,

Is there any option in LS-prepost to successfully suppress some parts in the model. I tried element deletion  (element tool> element edit> delete by part) but it throws errors "reading contact segment data, undefined node, the segment does not belong to any node".

Best,

Tri

Hi @rvnntgatech-edu,

By “suppress” parts, do you just want to remove them from the model entirely?

@negativevolume I have a motherboard with multiple components that are tied to it and undergoing shock analysis. Let's say I want to remove some components or modify shape of the components; what would be the best strategy to make edits to already made model?

@rvnntgatech-edu I’m not by my computer so I won’t be able to tell you exactly what windows to go to. But your method should work if you select a box that says something like “delete unreferenced entities”. That will remove anything from referencing the part you just deleted which is why you were having that error. A contact was still trying to reference a node from the part that no longer exists. You will need to do this for any parts you remove. There are a couple tricks you can do after you save it as well but I’ll try and write those up later.

Another method you can do is use a window called PartID which allows you to delete entire parts and any references. It’s in the Model tab.

I just checked. You are going to need to select "remove new unref elem. node" and check the box "clean model" if you want to use the element tool method for deleting parts.

And in Part ID, make sure you are in the "Show" tab and select whatever part you want to delete and click "Del" at the bottom.

And what type of changes to the shape do you want to make? You can scale things in Element tool -> Transform but it won't work well if your parts are physically connected to each other.

@negativevolume Thanks a lot for the suggestions, it worked. Basically I deleted the parts by element tool method and cleaned the model as suggested.

Element tool worked for scaling and translating the parts. Thanks a ton!

Yes, that's correct.
