Hi!

I am working on lattice materials. I am trying to apply global constraints on selected nodes which are located at the contact interface between the lattice and rigid plates. My methodology is to release the constraints at specific nominal strain values. Initially, I have tried to model this by using *boundary_spc_set_birth_death but the force level is dropped to an almost zero once the constraints are released.

I would be grateful if someone can explain how I implement the constraints on node sets without relaxation on force level.

Thanks for contribution.

Regards

Mesut

Hi @msahin89

Are these plates compressing the lattice? And is the purpose of the constraint to keep the lattice in place until loading begins? Also, is the contact working between the lattice and the plate once the SPC constraint is released? If this is all true, then you are probably just using the wrong *Database_ascii output to measure force. You might be using *Database_spcforc which only measures force at active *Boundary_spc entities, which would explain why your force drops to 0 once the constraint is released. You should use *Database_rcforc to measure the force between the lattice and the plate.
