I have a pretty big structural model with around 4 mil elements. I run out of space every time before the simulation terminates. I  just want the stress and strain output for a group of selected elements. I could find a way to write output for selected parts using d3part. But since my model has only one part, is there any way in LS-DYNA so that I can write the output only for a set of solid elements.

Hi @manoz21

Yes you can do this by using *Database_history_solid or _solid_set. You can create the *Database_history solid from the Create Entity tool (under keyword in the sidebar) or you can create a solid set here and reference it in the *Database_history_solid_set.

Then all you need to do is add *Database_ELOUT and you should be good to go.

@negativevolume thanks for the info. I am still confused about it. Which database should I use then? If I select d3plot, it writes output for all elements. Which database cards do I need to use?

@manoz21, this forum discussion will probably help answer your questions. If you have further questions, feel free to ask.

@negativevolume Thank you for the information. It was really helpful. I hope you can also help me with an issue I am having. I am looking for displacement response of a model under impulse load. I had to use tet4 elements as the structure has complicated welds for hex mesh. I have attached the displacement plot too. The displacement is  supposed to be smooth but is not the case as seen form the plot. I have also tried minimum time step for the output but its not helping either. I hope you can provide some feedback.
