RCForce not recording data

I activated the RCForce check box in the ASCII option card, set it to gather data at 0.005 (same as my other sensors which do work) and set its binary to 3. However, when I pull it up in my d3Plot and plot any force for any contact I get a constant value for 0 throughout my analysis. There definitely should be some forces as this is an impact but I'm not sure how to get them to display. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can add more info about my analysis if needed, however, RCForce hasn't been working for me with other analyses either.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @davidszonyi,

I have seen this happen with certain types of contacts like Single_Surface contacts. Any chance that’s what you are using?

Nope, I'm using automatic surface to surface and surface to surface interference contacts. I tried following a simple tutorial to see if it worked there, unfortunately it didn't.

Are you using *Control_Contact? There may be some settings in there that could disable outputting contact force.

Also, how are your contacts defined? With parts or segment sets or something else?

I am not using *Control_Contact and my contacts are all defined with segment sets. I'm starting to think this might be a tech issue, I contacted the people I bought DYNA from, and my k file worked with RCFORC on their end, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. I also gave my k file to someone else with DYNA to run it, and it didn't seem to work for them either. Maybe there's something wrong with the way I'm trying to access the data?  I load the binout, select both the slave and the master, and plot the resultant force (then the x,y and z to make sure). I then try it by loading the ASCII file. Am I doing something wrong?

sometimes the contact forces are not recorded properly because of version . try installing latest version and use latest executables. also if possible share me the k files on geardyn.1@gmail.com .... I shall have look at it and try to correct it.

Yep that was issue! The version I was running, R10.0, apparently has issues with RCFORC, I installed the latest version and now its working fine!

Cheers!
