Hey all,

Is anyone familiar with importing .*k files into ANSYS Workbench? I am currently working with Toyota's THuMS model, and my LS Run license is no longer available, so I have to solve it within ANSYS. Each time I try to use the "External Model" function, the Mechanical model does not recognize the geometry or mesh inside the .*k file.

I have successfully imported simple models (ie., ball and block), but the THuMS model always gives me the following error:

Update failed for the Model component in LS-DYNA. Conversion Failed. [Acmo\AcmoMeshProvider.cpp:80] ElementEnumeratorImpl: No elements.

Has anyone encountered and solved this error? Any help would be very appreciated, Thanks!
Ryan

Hi @rybask1

Sorry for the late response. I'm honestly shocked that you were able to import any sort of LS-Dyna model into Ansys since they are two completely different solvers. Were you just attempting to import the .dyn THUMs model or an output? It could have to do with the *include files since the elements would be in a separate file than the main file.

It seems I may have been led astray by my university’s IT department. I am still able to access LS Run (thankfully).

However, I was able to import the geometry from the k file by changing some of the settings in External Model. I was not able to mesh the parts, though, and the LS Dyna solver integrated into ANSYS does not recognize any of the more complex material models from LSPP.

@rybask1 This is not going to be helpful 🙂 but I am curious - Why would you even want to use LS-DYNA through WorkBench?

The integration with the user interface is going to take time (think months/years!).

Hahah I agree entirely!

The reason I was even attempting the switch was because I was told I would no longer have access to LS Dyna in its traditional form. I fortunately found out that this was untrue, however, and have gone back to the old fashioned way!

Thanks!
